Our Trip to Lower Seletar
Welcome to our blog on Lower Seletar Reservoir J
Here we share our knowledge of the reservoir itself!
FYI:
Lower Seletar
Lower
Seletar reservoir is one of the four national taps in Singapore, with its location
being at Punggol. It’s a place bustling with daily activities such as kayaking,
jogging, golfing, etc. and is a great place for family bonding. Why don’t you go
visit some time? J

Back in the 1920s, Seletar was the third reservoir to be built after Mac Ritchie and Peirce reservoir in order to support Singapore’s increasing population as well as the developing industries. In 1940 and 1967, Seletar Reservoir’s capacity had been expanded and it became Singapore’s largest reservoir back then. It was also a popular place for leisure back in those days. In order to allow the reservoir to hold water, a dam was built across the mouth of the reservoir. Rainwater from Yishun and Ang Mo Kio was then channeled there through a series of drains and canals.
In
2004, all the reservoirs, including the Lower Seletar reservoir, were opened to allow water
activities to be carried out to in order to educate Singaporeans on the importance of water as a shared resource. Finally, in 2010, Lower Seletar reservoir was officially
opened to the public and the Active, Beautiful and Clean (ABC) Programme was
also introduced along with it, with the aim of turning Singapore into a city of Gardens and Waters.
